On January 24, 2022, the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management in Opatija, together with the Italian Secondary School in Rijeka and the Kvarner County Tourist Board celebrated the International Day of Education under the motto "Transformation of Education". As stated in the recent global report "Futures of Education" from UNESCO, the transformation of the future requires the establishment of interrelationships between education, nature and technology that permeate our lives and provide opportunities for a deeper knowledge of sustainable development.

The Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Sandra Janković, Ph.D. welcomed the students from the Italian Secondary School led by the principal Mr. Michele Scalembra and teachers Ingrid Nasić and Silvie Vračar. Prof. Romina Alkier, Ph.D., Vice-Dean for Business Relations, presented the activities of the Faculty and emphasized that the undergraduate study programme Management of Sustainable Development aims to provide relevant knowledge for the management activity in the tourism sector, which must be developed in modern conditions according to the principles of sustainable development. Irena Peršić Živadinov, Ph.D. emphasized that the activities of the Tourist Board are focused on the development of Kvarner as a sustainable destination. Student Adrian Gostevčić shared his student experience with the students from the Italian Secondary School, to whom the students asked numerous questions about life at FTHM. The activities of the Eco Board, the Center for Career Development and Internship and the Student Council were presented. After the presentation, the students had the opportunity to visit the new and the old building of the Faculty and an operational meeting was held with the principal Michelea Scalembra, the Director Irena Peršić Živadinov, Ph.D., the Dean Prof. Sandra Janković, Ph.D. and the Vice-Dean for Development Prof. Marinela Krstinić Nižić, Ph.D. about future cooperation and joint projects
