The scope of work of the Department of Accounting is scientific, teaching, professional and general-social activities from the wider accounting disciplines, with special emphasis on:

  • realization of scientific, developmental and professional research projects, supported by the Ministry of Science of Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatia, in accordance with the requirements of the economy or the public sector or in cooperation with the institutions and associations abroad;
  • presenting research results at scientific and professional conferences (conferences, congresses, round tables ...) at home and abroad;
  • membership in editorial boards of scientific and professional journals, conferences and bodies in the field of accounting, tourism and hotel;
  • research and training on recent domestic and foreign higher education and scientific institutions in the field of accounting, tourism and hotel;
  • to improve the methods and techniques of transfer and assessment of knowledge within the curriculum adapted to the requirements of students within the regular and extraordinary program;
  • preparation of teaching materials from accounting disciplines for students (by publishing books and textbooks, scripts, manuals and other teaching materials, printed or presented electronically on the faculty's web pages);
  • visiting lectures in undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate studies of other higher education institutions in the country and abroad;
  • active participation in the work of professional associations in the field of accounting, and associations in the field of hotel and tourism in the country and abroad;
  • creating new journals, conferences and congresses, lifelong learning programs, international summer schools and other forms of innovative projects in the fields of accounting, tourism and hotel management;
  • by helping students and young researchers find their way of training within the broader area covered by the scientific branch of accounting, with particular emphasis on the specificities of implementation in tourism and hotel business.

The Accounting Department is significant for every business economics study and a number of accounting courses offer every program of management studies in tourism and hotel business. This is particularly important in the process of realization of the Bologna process, as it provides students with the transfer of ECTS credits in cooperation with related institutions of higher education abroad.

At the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management, the program contents of the accounting system are fully adapted to the needs of the world hotel industry, and within this Department, they can acquire knowledge that is in line with national and global requirements. The Department / Institute's activity is in addition to teaching, focusing on scientific and professional activities, each of the members of the Department / Institute in this field specializing, with particular emphasis on the design of projects that are significant for the hotel and tourism economy.

The future of the Department / Institute should be based on the foundations and positive experiences of its historical development. Particular emphasis should be placed on the specialization of each member of the Department / Institute, to ensure, within the scope of the Accounting branch, the possibility of covering all specific areas of accounting activity.

In intercultural co-operation, emphasis should be placed primarily on the Departments / Institutes covering micro-economic disciplines, as well as those focused on the narrower areas of the hotel and tourism process.
