The institute consists of the following three departments:

• Department of Micro and Macroeconomics
• Department of International Economics and Development
• Department of International Economic Investments

The activity of the institute is based on its participation in scientific projects by the Croatian Ministury of Science, Education and Sports. Members of the institute publish scientific and professional papers and participate in scientific and professional conferences both within Croatia and abroad.

In papers and other scientific activities, the members:

• advocate a scientific approach to the planning of the development and development policies in tourism;
• critically evaluate results of the development of Croatian tourism so far, on a macro and micro level;
• point out the role of tourism management in defining the tourism development strategy;
• define ways of improving and profiling the current supply and marketing; demonstrate their knowledge of global accomplishments in the development of tourism on the global market;
• investigate modern trends in international economics and EU economics;
• analyze the process of Croatian EU accession and its repercussions on the competitiveness of Croatian tourism.
