Department Members:

Department of international economics and development combines two significant areas of work:

International Economics - analyzes the global trends of economy and tourism in a turbulent, dynamic 21st century market. A special area of interest is the role of Croatia as a member of the European Union and of the international environment.

Development - analyzes the qualitative response of Croatia (macro level) and of contemporary Croatian companies (economic and hotel-tourist enterprises) to the challenges of competitive match of the 21st century.

The department is actively involved in all activities of the Faculty. Its primary activities are related to teaching, scientific, and professional activities of members. Teaching activity is manifested in performing teaching duties on full-time and part-time (Opatija and SC Zabok) undergraduate and graduate studies, as well as in professional and postgraduate (doctoral) studies. Members publish scientific and professional papers and participate in scientific and professional conferences within the country and abroad, and also apply their scientific research within various scientific projects. The members of the Department also actively participate in the professional and European projects of the Faculty.

The significance of the department is derived from the field of action. It synergically links two key areas of interest-international economy and development. The results of the research of the members of the department should contribute to Croatia's qualitative response to the dynamics of the international economy in the function of achieving development. The achievement of development is based on the qualitative transformation of all business segments and the affirmation of a knowledge-based value system (knowledge society) in the function of achieving the competitiveness of the Croatian economy, tourism, and individual business entities.

The concept of development as a fundamental document must consolidate all potential strategies (research and development strategy, production strategy, marketing strategy, human resources management strategy and financial strategy) with a goal to qualitatively transform the business. That is why the department should strive to interact with other departments within and outside the Institute for national and international economy with a goal to educate future managers and implement their knowledge and competences in practice.
