World Tourism Day, celebrated every 27 September around the world, is a unique opportunity to raise awareness on tourism’s actual and potential contribution to sustainable development. The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is the United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism. As the leading international organization in the field of tourism, UNWTO promotes tourism as a driver of economic growth, inclusive development and environmental sustainability and offers leadership and support to the sector in advancing knowledge and tourism policies worldwide. UNWTO encourages the implementation of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, to maximize tourism’s socio-economic contribution while minimizing its possible negative impacts, and is committed to promoting tourism as an instrument in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), geared towards reducing poverty and fostering sustainable development worldwide. The importance of digital technologies in tourism, providing opportunities for innovation and preparing the sector for the future of work, was at the centre of World Tourism Day 2018, celebrated in Budapest, Hungary (27 September 2018).
This year, domestic and international students did actively participate in the project activity called "Economic impacts of tourism". The aim of this activity was to explore, analyse and present the economic effects of tourism in selected European countries, with particular emphasis on the economic indicators directly and indirectly affected by tourism. Results of their research presented in posters are permanently exhibited on the second floor of the faculty building.
