The study programme Sustainable tourism development follows the concept promoted by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the UNESCO World Tourism Heritage Committee. These starting points are implemented in the structure of the curriculum that is geared towards the education of future managers in tourism, hospitality, the hotel industry and public sector, which through diverse teaching contents offers an overview of the complex economic knowledge, by taking into account the specific knowledge, skills and competences needed to implement sustainable tourism development .

Aim of the study programme
The aim of the study programme is to train students to perform managerial activities related to designing and implementing sustainable tourism development along with its continuous improvement.
Competences acquired upon study completion
- Knowledge command in the field of tourism and sustainable development;
- Ability to monitor and evaluate global trends related to sustainable tourism development;
- Self-management of business processes related to tourism and hospitality industry on the principles of sustainable development;
- Ability to manage spatial resources and apply the concept of sustainable development;
- Ability to monitor and apply legislation and standards aimed at sustainable business in tourism and hospitality industry;
- Taking over the team and personal responsibility for realizing the project idea.
- Ability to apply information and communication technology in business;
- Ability to analyze, interpret and apply key indicators to evaluate business results.
Upon completion of this study programme, students will develop general competencies such as the ability of abstract thinking, critical thinking, generating new ideas, identifying and solving problems, planning and managing time, continuous learning, work independence, and other skills.
Employment opportunities
Upon completion of this study programme the employment opportunities in the hotel industry in Croatia, as a rising activity, are widely open, since the study programme is designed to provide relevant knowledge, skills and competences for performing managerial jobs of the highest level in tourism based on the principles of sustainable development. Accordingly, the Masters of Economics will be able to take important positions in tourist boards, tourist organizations, tourist agencies, catering facilities, as well as in education, communal system, media, all selective forms of tourist offer, accompanying industries, financial institutions, accounting, control and inspection services and also related services for which the specific knowledge in the field of tourism, hotel industry, restaurant business and related activities is required and the principles of sustainable development are accepted.
